HELLO!
RIDLEY CESKY TERRIERS were at the forefront of establishing this breed in the UK.
In the last thirty five years, fourteen imported Cesky Terriers - nine from the Czech Republic, two each from Poland and Denmark and one from Canada - have made their home at Ridley, laying the foundations of correct type and temperament.
Every sensible dog breeder comes to a point when they know in their heart of hearts that another litter is just not a good idea. I no longer breed or show, and even my days of promoting the Cesky Terrier are over, due to increasing old age but, if you re interested in the Cesky Terrier, I hope that you will find this website of interest.
There are a lot of memories, and not a little emotion, tied up in the litters we have bred, and it's difficult to think that within a few years our kennel name will become just a faint memory. I have been lucky enough to find someone who will carry the Ridley name into the future. Amanda Halling shares my enthusiasm for the breed and I am confident that under her stewardship Ridley Cesky Terriers will thrive. You can meet the current Ridley Cesky Terriers here
This website is essentially a history of the original Ridley Cesky Terriers. It documents my early dogs and the contribution that they made to my breeding programme and to the breed in general. It is also a way of acknowledging the help, encouragement and co-operation of others, not just in the UK, but around the world.
My aim has always been to keep the Cesky Terrier as true to the objectives of its founder, František Horák , as possible.
One fellow UK breeder once described my dogs as being 'too Czech'....... Since this is a Czech breed, I took the comment as a compliment, although I'm not sure that it was meant as such!
The Cesky Terrier is a very special breed. It fulfilled the dream of one man, himself a proud Czech, who gave the breed the name of his country rather tan claim it for himself. In getting to know and love the breed I have also got to know and to love the country and its people. I am proud to call many of them my friends.
If you want to know more about the breed, please don't hesitate to get in touch - 'talking Cesky' is one of my favourite occupations!
Sheila Atter
Here are some of the many Cesky Terriers that have found their home at Ridley:
Olivia, Gloria, Pamatka, Kiki, Zara, Nina, Pavel, Luther, Eva, Tomas. Xanthe, Aja, Anika, Xaver and Xanto.
